I felt very nervous about taking the practice exam. I concentrated on the time in the top right corner, and found that made it difficult to focus. I do not consider myself to be a person who tests well, as exams have always made me very nervous. I found the questions about the DSM very confusing. As a Canadian social worker, you do not use the DSM. My knowledge of the DSM has only been from what I have learned during the MSW program at Wayne State, and I found these very challenging to answer. During the exam I also found myself second guessing some of my answers. I tried not to do this and always went with my first instinct. I also found some questions to be very lengthly and detailed, but ultimately asking what your first step would be. I would then have to go back and review the question one more time, and was again distracted by the timer. Overall, I found this to be a stressful yet good experience.
I am very fortunate that as a Canadian social worker, upon graduation, I will not have to write a licensure exam. I do have the option to register as a social worker, but I do not have to write a test in order to become a registered social worker. I did find taking the practice exam very informative, and wish my fellow classmates the best of luck in preparation for the exam!
